DNA Engagement Diamonds

After the news of a bio-degradable wedding dress, comes news of a unique wedding keepsake that gets both the bride and groom and possibly their pet involved very directly indeed.

DNA2Diamonds (‘You are now… and forever’) are a company that offer the process of melding together the DNA in hair of both future husband and wife to create an engagement ring that is literally a little bit of both.

As well as the romantic novelty, the ring is beneficial to eco-friendly couples seeking an alternative to the normal way diamonds are often sourced – a typical 1 carat diamond requires the extraction of 275 tonnes of ore. DNA2Diamond grow their rocks naturally.

“Laboratory grown diamonds do not come from a mine”, says DNA2Diamonds president Tom Bischoff. “That simple fact is of growing importance to more environmentally and socially aware brides making DNA2Diamonds the ‘green’ bride’s choice.”

All the usual colours and styles are available, and the rings range from 0.25 to 2.0 carat. An advantage to grooms on a budget is that the cost is only a fraction of that of a mined diamond. The process takes about 70 days, so the only disadvantage is for green couples wedding on a whim.

Are you up for an eco-friendly diamond? How important is it to you that your big day is environmentally sound? Let us know over on the forum.
