Average Couple Underinsures Wedding By 30%
Fact – weddings ain’t cheap. The average nuptials will set you back an eye-watering £17,000 (and that’s not counting
the honeymoon) and yet a new study from leading wedding insurance comparison website, Compare Wedding Insurance, has unearthed a big, fat problem. The typical couple is only buying a policy that provides £12,000 of cancellation – that’s a shortfall of almost 30%.
Compare Wedding Insurance founder, Adam Leyton, points out that “Should the unthinkable happen and a wedding has to be cancelled or re-arranged, the couple may end up significantly out of pocket despite believing they were financially covered.”
Why exactly are couples chancing it, then? Well, the budget might have crept up by stealth (sound familiar?) and some couples forget to increase their insurance cover to match these increments. Other folks might just be taking a gamble that they won’t have to make a claim for a full-on cancellation or postponement. After all, some mishaps are relatively minor e.g. damage inflicted on hired mens wedding suits, or one of the suppliers going bust.
So, it really comes down to this. As Clint would say, do you feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?
