After A Twitter Proposal – The Tweeted Wedding Ceremony

We love our social networking sites here at Staggered, we really do. There’s no denying their addictive qualities but there is a line to be drawn and tweeting your wedding ceremony is probably it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/leontaveras/

Not so for Phoenix couple Greg Rewis and Stephanie Sullivan. Not only did Greg tweet his proposal to Stephanie but the happy couple then decided to complement their online engagement by Twittering every moment of their Big Day, reports Wired. Spurning a traditional ceremony in favour of a technological jamboree (complete with Twitpics, Flickr photos and video), the home-based wedding was attended by a handful of guests and, of course, a much larger virtual guest list.

Their children from previous marriages were awarded the task of tweeting the vows at the appropriate moment, artfully dividing them up into 140-character chunks. (At least they weren’t reporting on the stag-do – that could’ve got seriously messy. Besides, it’s definitely a step up from the infamous tweeting groom).

“How unromantic”, I hear you mutter. Well, it’s not a view shared by Stephanie, who insists that the tweeted question-popping was a “far more fabulous proposal than him on bended knee.” Clearly a practical sort, she explains that “we have friends all over the world” and “that’s why we’re doing the wedding this way: Greg and I already live in a virtual world.”

Sadly for their followers, Stephanie has declared the honeymoon a no-tweet zone.

Is this a step too far? Do Twitter and weddings go together like, um, marmite and chocolate? Go on – let it all out on the forum. While you’re at it, check out our robust response to a tweetiquette guide…
