Adventures and Things to See
Spending a romantic holiday together in New Zealand offers things to do and places to see like no other. Here is a selection of ideas to get you thinking about the things you can do and see:
North Island
Hire a kayak together on the pristine waters of the Abel Tasman National Park. Discover secret sandy coves in Northland or ride a horse along a deserted beach in the same area at sunrise. Cruise amongst the 144 islands of the Bay of Islands or take the helicopter for a bird’s eye view. Visit the Coromandel Peninsula and dig a hole on Hot Water Beach for a thermal soak. Visit the Art Deco Capital of the world at Napier. Tour the geysers of Geothermal Rotorua. Jet boat to the mighty Huka Falls while visiting Lake Taupo, the largest freshwater volcanic lake in the world. At Wellington visit the Te Papa Museum or take the cable car for stunning views of the natural harbour.
South Island
Admire the beauty of the volcanoes like Mount Taranaki. Go hot air ballooning over Canterbury flat plains and admire the view. Swim with the world’s rarest dolphins – the Hectors at Akaroa or Dusky dolphins at Kaikoura (or whale watch in the same areas). Travel over the Southern Alps – (try the famous TranzAlpine Train). Take ‘The West Coast Road’ one of the world’s top drives. Try a Heli-hike for the best views of Fox Glacier and Franz Josef Glaciers. Take a scenic flight from Wanaka over Milford Sound or take a cruise to admire the spectacular scenery. Explore Dart River by Jet safari or Funyak. At Queenstown, the adventure capital, try white-water rafting or jet boating on the thrilling Shotover River- many other thrilling activities are available in abundance in Queenstown area including Tandem Hang Gliding & Paragliding, Nzone Skydive, several types of helicopter based experiences and much more.
Romantic places to stay in New Zealand
Many types of accommodations are available and why not include in your itinerary some boutique-style accommodation which is normally located in truly stunning landscapes with excellent facilities. You may be on a budget and some of the time you may wish to ‘eat in’ at many of the motels which offer kitchen facilities. Or you may prefer a resort style hotel and spa or luxury apartments. There are some marvellous 5 star B&Bs like The Fletchers Lodge at Dunedin, Takatu Lodge and Vineyard at Matakana or The Summit Lodge at Masterton to name a few. Just as your adventures can be varied so can your accommodation.
Touring in New Zealand
Driving in New Zealand is easy and an itinerary can easily be arranged so that your average driving time is no more than 3 to 4 hours per sector, and obviously you will not be driving longer distances every day. Just apply for details of a suggested route and examples of what accommodation you think you would require. Plus of course with a budget in mind, there are other options like using a Camper Van for all or part of the time – tours, coach and rail travel are also available. New Zealand with its stunning unspoilt scenery, friendly hospitality and list of experiences will be a honeymoon to remember and cherish for a lifetime.
