Real Grooms: Parry Jones

Andrew Shanahan Aug 2010 No Comment Bookmark or Share

Name: Parry Jones

Age: 26

Bride’s name: Rebecca Jones

Best man and ushers names: Four  joint best men Brad Jones, James Riley, Adam Taylor and Mark Flounders.

Where was your stag do – any scars? I had a couple of stag do’s with friends from different parts of the country and deliberately kept them low key. After seeing one of my best men end up in A&E in Edinburgh on his stag the year before I preferred to keep mine scar free!

Where did you get married? Azillanet (small village near Carcassonne in France)

What did the men wear on the day: I wore a black dinner suit and shirt from Mark Marengo, black patent shoes and a black Ascot. My best men wore hired grey suits from Debenhams and white shirts. To give some degree of theme the best men and dads wore matching navy ties with blue spots and my Ascot also had white spots. Plus we all had white pocket handkerchiefs. We didn’t match the ties to the bridesmaids dresses or wear flowers – I don’t see the point in either and bet most men do this because they are under orders.

What advice would you give to other blokes going through the whole wedding thing now?

Having been to lots of weddings recently my advice is:

1: make the wedding your own. The more of you and your wife’s personality that comes out in it the more you and your guests will enjoy it.

2: get a great photographer and tell them what you want. We used Hannah at hdm photography and she did a great job. The photos reflected the wedding rather than the other way round.

3: best advice I had pre-wedding was that it is a surreal day, so take time out to look around and take in what’s happening. Don’t let it pass you by in a haze.

My top tip for style is… if you never wear a suit you probably have no idea what you’re doing when you go to buy one. So take someone who does.

A word for the lady, come on, say something emotional about your bride… The lady deserves many words but if I only have one it’ll have to be ‘wow’! That’s what I thought when I saw her walk down the aisle.

Staggered Says: Wise words about the personalisation of the wedding. After all, many men would probably say that the Ascot doesn’t really work on anyone under 60/outside of the RAF but Parry takes it and makes it his own. It’s worth hearing his thoughts on matching colours with bridesmaids, etc. You can theme a wedding to death you know…

Also we don’t really do jumping in the air and clapping all that often but we do love Mark Marengo with something akin to a fervour – have a look at their site and ask yourself if you’ve ever seen a smarter raincoat. And another +1 to Parry’s suggestion of Hannah Dornford-May, hopefully you’ll be seeing lots more of her grooms on our pages soon…
