Real Grooms: Neal Bez-Suzuki

Your Name: Neal Bez-Suzuki (nee Bez)

Age: 28

Bride’s name: Miho Bez-Suzuki (nee Suzuki)

Where did you get married? The Hub, Castlehill (“The Royal Mile”), Edinburgh. Miho and I met in Edinburgh and it’s a fantastic venue.

Best man and ushers: Aminur Miah, Maciek Nowakowski, Filip Lecki (I had three bestmen each with their own special talents).

Where was your stag do – any scars? A surprise weekend in Nuremberg (1 night) and Munich (1 night) with the bestmen and my bro. No scars. Fabulous weekend with beer, sausages, some dancing and midnight go-karting.

What did the men wear on the day? I wore a suit (jacket, trousers), from Ozwald Boateng, £300 (outlet price). Shirt, from Duchamp, £130. Tie, from Duchamp, £65. Waistcoat, from Marks and Spencer, £20. Cufflinks, from Duchamp, £80. Shoes, from Russell and Bromley, £150. Socks, from Duchamp, £15. Hat, hired from Debenhams (part of a set – see below). Perhaps it’s not the priority for most grooms, but I had my hair cut and styled on the morning of the wedding at Toni&Guy. Perhaps a little risky but it definitely paid off. For the evening party (ceilidh dancing) I changed my shirt (TM Lewin, £25), tie (old), and shoes (Hugo Boss, shiny silver, £150).

The best men all wore jacket and trousers, waistcoat, hat, shirt, tie all hired from Debenhams. Black Herringbone tailcoats, ivory waistcoats and ruches, white shirts, black-grey striped trousers, approximately £100 per person.

Orange buttonholes: Our florist was Laura Eberst, suggested by The Hub. I chose extra large here – I don’t like tiny buttonholes that look like they’d rather not be there.

I purchased the suit jacket and trousers first – my heart was set on that. Then the other items were purchased to fit with this, together with our wedding theme colours. I’d particularly recommend Duchamp for their colourful/floral designs which work very well for weddings.

What three pieces of advice could you give to other grooms going through the wedding process now?

1) Pick your groomsmen wisely. On the day itself, intelligent and cool heads around you are priceless.

2) Suit – I would suggest purchasing instead of hiring, and be bold with the choice (whilst running it by the wife-to-be, before it’s too late).

3) Perhaps not top of the list for grooms, but: A brilliant photographer – with hindsight, much more important than I imagined. Ours comes very highly recommended.

A word for the lady, come on, say something emotional about your bride…

Miho is a beautiful lady who brings boundless joy and fun to my life. Without doubt, my greatest discovery.

Staggered Says: This confirms so many of the things that we’ve banged on about at Staggered – chief among those are that there are so many different options for grooms who want to choose their own look on their wedding day. We really like how the buttonholes and top hats make it abundantly clear that this is a unified group of men, but it means that they don’t all have to be dressed identically.

In short: this rocks x infinity. Good wishes, love and long life to Neal and Miho.

A huge thanks to the super-talented Rosie Parsons for sharing.
