One Wedding Day Down, One To Go
This is, unfortunately, a really rushed post as I’m in between weddings. For the uninitiated, I’m getting married twice – once legally and once in the middle of a big field in Yorkshire. The humanist ceremony planned for the big field in Yorkshire isn’t recognised by the law, so yesterday was our legal wedding. We had a small ceremony in Cambridge for 15 people, who we then took for lunch at the truly, astoundingly brilliant St John’s Chop House.
I am now married. I have a wife. I wear a wedding band. As I write these things it simply hasn’t quite sunk in yet.
A day and a half on, and I still haven’t tired of calling Liz “Mrs. Anderson.” Liz still hasn’t managed to hear that without making some kind of squeal and pulling a slightly freaked out face.
Yesterday was over in a flash, something I’ve heard virtually every bride/groom say, which makes me very glad we still have the humanist celebration and big-ass party in a field this coming Saturday. This will undoubtedly be over in a flash also, but at least two flashes will seem longer than one…
Yesterday was amazing. We had a ceremony at noon, where I surprised myself by getting a little emotional, although I don’t count “welling up a bit” as crying. Technically, a tear has to roll down the face for it to count as crying. I’m really pleased we were allowed one person to video the proceedings, as I remember very little of it. I don’t really remember any of the 4 songs we played. During the vows and the signing of the certificates I don’t really remember anyone else being there apart from Liz and I.
We all sat down for lunch at 1pm, finished at about 4pm, went for a pint then everyone left. Liz and I checked into our suite at the Hotel du Vin, which I would highly recommend. We got a bottle of champers as they’d heard it was a special day and the service was perfect – everything you need without being too bowing/scraping/smarmy, just really efficient and friendly. We milled around Cambridge for a while, had a first Mr & Mrs Anderson coffee, then a first Mr & Mrs Anderson cocktail, then back to the hotel for the first Mr & Mrs Anderson room service.
We drove home (first Mr & Mrs Anderson driving) for the first night at Mr & Mrs Anderson’s house, but we still have to do everything from pack for the journey up North (and also pack for our honeymoon) through to the practicalities of things like making signs to point people to the camping area, facilities, parking etc. The next few days are going to be pretty sleepless, but right now I’m on cloud 9 and really don’t care as it’s Mr & Mrs Anderson sleeplessness. We’re loving every minute and I know I can’t quite get my head around the fact someone has vowed to stay with me forever through thick and thin. Awesome.

Amazing! Thanks so much for updating us and can’t wait to see the pictures. Have a great big ass field wedding and more updates as and when you can. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Anderson from everyone at Staggered.
BTW on this photographic evidence Liz is way out of your league. Good work!
Thanks very much… You think I look bad from that angle, you should see the front.
I’ve 3d modelled your profile pic. You’re right. Not good.
Congrats, ‘other’ Dan! Hope the big field do goes as well if not better!
Congratulations Dan!
Congratulations Dan! Sounds really amazing!
