Toby Luper Sorts Your Style Questions

We are on a tight budget and my groomsmen are expecting me to pay for their suits. Do you have any advice on etiquette for this, what are other grooms doing?

The question of how much should be spent on a suit is obviously always dependent on the budget. It would be wrong to suggest that everyone should spend a specific amount, thus, a percentage of the total budget could be the way to go.

Considering the suit can be worn long after the wedding day, at Hemingway we don’t believe it is going too far to consider the suit as a better investment than the wedding dress. Though what the bride feels about this can be a different matter!

You could suggest they all wear for instance, black suits, and then you could buy them shirts and ties to compliment the colour of the bridesmaid’s dresses.

I am on a diet and hope to have lost quite a bit of weight before my wedding. I know that it is important to get measured for suits in plenty of time before the wedding, but what can I do to ensure that my suit doesn’t end up being too big?

If you are having a suit made, plan to lose your weight two months prior to the wedding. This will allow you to have the suit made in plenty of time for the big day. If Hemingway were to make your suit any small adjustments, if appropriate, could be made just beforehand.

My fiancée has told me that our wedding is going to have a very pink theme and that all the groomsmen will have to wear pink accessories. I am not keen on this and was planning on something a little more toned down. What can I do?

If you are having a made to measure suit then I would suggest using the pink for the lining and if you are having a three piece suit then the back of the waistcoat would also be in pink. We have in the past made suits with the bottom cuff buttonhole being in the desired colour but after the wedding this is something you will have to live with so the lining option is usually more popular with the grooms that object to wearing pink.

Alternatively you could wear a pink tie and pochette – and they can live at the back of your wardrobe forever after.
