New Groom Alert!

Hi, I’m Mark and I’m getting married! (Apparently admitting it is the first step?) Fortunately I have been blessed with a wonderful fiancée, Kirsty, who has been more than prepared to give me a say in our wedding, and a few months in, we’ve not suffered any of the stress that weddings are supposed to bring.

We’ve been pretty fortunate to be able to agree on most of the details so far. Being a Catholic, I was keen to have the actual ceremony in my Church, but then I wanted to at least make a nod to the old tradition of having the wedding in the bride’s home town.

Finding a reception venue actually turned out to be an easy experience. A visit to the beautiful Tewin Bury Farm Hotel, just outside Welwyn Garden City, and the deal was done – and only a half hour drive from the Church! So the date was set as May 25th 2012. I guess some people might have wanted to look at alternatives, but the venue was perfect for our personalities and what we both wanted out of the experience.

Picking a best man didn’t take long either. Family has always been important to me, therefore my 13 year old son seemed the obvious choice. He might need a bit of help sorting out his speech and the stag do and all that, but a carefully selected group of Ushers will be happy to help I am sure.

A work colleague of Kirsty’s is just setting up as a photographer (http://www.aaroncollettphotography.co.uk/) and we both really like his work, so that deal was done in a tea shop in Milton Keynes, and the most important things to us about the whole day were set up with minimal fuss and no disagreements.

We’ve spent quite a few lovely days at the beach, so despite having a wedding in landlocked Hertfordshire, we both wanted a seaside theme to our event. So the last few months have been spent scurrying around various coastal towns trawling for ideas for our centre pieces. Our breakfast tables have therefore been left flowerless, and will instead be centred around various seaside artefacts, model beach houses, lighthouses, boats, a deckchair, fish, sea birds and so on.

Winning my bespoke suit from Staggered and Moss Bespoke was a big help, as I didn’t want to wear tails, and getting married in an off the peg number from Next just seems wrong.  Now I have a fitted suit waiting for the big day- must remember to remain about my current weight for the next eight months!

So far planning our big day has been a joyful experience that has brought us even closer and helped show that we can work well together, hopefully a good omen for the future – it will be a great pleasure to share our hard work with Staggered readers as we get towards the big day next May!

    Welcome Mark!

I feel all grown up and paternal over all the new blood. And actually extremely jealous.

Not that I don’t want to be married to S, more the fact that the experience of planning my wedding is one of the most memorable and for the most part enjoyable experiences of my life.

I can’t wait to read your blog in the months ahead Mark, and a big e-hug (or manly e-handshake if you prefer)to welcome you to the blogging team!

    STD

We may need to rethink the STD acronym – I don’t know if we want to become known as Mr & Mrs STD……..
