Lisa Simpson: The Forgotten Celebrity Wedding

Now, we’re not accusing you of taking a sneaky peak at the missus’ copy of Heat magazine or anything (heavenhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/joeshlabotnik/ forfend!), but unless you decided to impose a media blackout round your way over the weekend, you probably heard about a couple of high profile celebrity weddings that took place.

First up, Chelsea Clinton got hitched to long-term beau and investment banker, Marc Mezvinsky. Soul diva Alicia Keys also took the plunge and betrothed herself to hip-hop producer, Swizz Beatz. Chuck in a Devon themed wedding which saw Batman marry Wonder Woman and we had ourselves a bumper weekend of wedding news.

One canny hack at Metro, however, has unearthed a glaring omission to this stellar list. August 1st 2010 was also the day that animated heroine, the wonderful Lisa Simpson, was scheduled to marry British student, Hugh Parkfield, whom she was destined to meet whilst attending Harvard. Hardcore fans may recall episode 19 of the sixth series that first aired in 1985 [Ok, ok, it was 1995], in which eight-year-old Lisa was told all about her future love by a carnival fortune-teller. Tragically, this is one wedding that didn’t go quite to plan. Lisa jilted her groom at the altar after he refused to wear Homer’s set of piggy cufflinks

Got yourself a Father of the Bride as daft as Homer? Have a rant on the forum
