It’s Official – Women Do Use Dirty Tricks To Make You Propose

You’re proud of being your own man. You stick to your principles without faltering and maintain your integrity at all times. Moreover, you’re someone who’s wholly impervious to manipulation from the fairer sex. But are you sure that your engagement was really all your own idea?

A truly shocking survey commissioned by UKTV’s Really channel to mark its ‘Up The Aisle’ season has confirmed what many of us have suspected all along: the majority of ladies employ an audacious array of below-the-belt dirty tricks to manipulate us into proposing. It seems that the stereotype is justified and that many women will go to terrifying lengths to secure their dream wedding.

Out of the 3,600 ladies polled, a whopping 60% admitted to using underhand measures to speed up the engagement process. Pour yourself a stiff drink – here’s a rundown of their most dastardly schemes:

  • 32% railroaded their partner into proposing by threatening to walk out on them;
  • 17% sent themselves flowers from an imaginary admirer to try and make their partner feel jealous;
  • 10% deliberately fell pregnant or pretended to have a bun in the oven to make sure their partner popped the question.

Thankfully, they’re not all nutters. Most of the nonsense actually came from the younger bunny boilers; girls aged 16-20 were the most crazed, with 62% resorting to underhand tactics. Reassuringly, a sensible 18% of ladies wisely decided to cut the crap and simply ask their partner to marry them.

Were you hassled into popping the question? Did you surprise her with a proposal out of the blue? Maybe you’re thinking it and need some tips on how to propose? Tell us about it on the forum.

    Really not sure what to say to this…I’m far too gobsmacked.

    Nice to know that you find it so easy to talk about women in terms of ‘nutters’ and ‘bunny boilers’. Nice to know that you’re also perpetuating the myth of ‘poor men, at the mercy of those nasty manipulative women’.

    Glad that I’m not associated with you in any way whatsoever.

    Hi Ally,

    Sorry to leave you gobsmacked, it certainly wasn’t our intention. We may be a men’s wedding website but we absolutely don’t consider misogyny as a way to amuse our readers, or something we’d condone in the slightest.

    As to your comments, I should point out that the story was written by a woman and based on a survey that really was quite gobsmacking in its findings; which (if true) reveals that there’s a huge degree of manipulation when it comes to engagements.

    Whether or not that allows us to use terms like bunny boilers and nutters is another question. I personally don’t think those terms are offensive in the context of the story, but I apologise if you do.

    Best wishes,

    In response to Allys post;-

    I found it to be an interesting article and took no offence by anything written in it. If you are winging on about a few descriptive words being used then I can only assume that you may be under the influence of the ‘brainwashing marxist PC brigade’.

    Too much PC nowadays. Bring back normal , commonsence and the normal banter that is between men and women, before we are well and truely sucked up in the downward spiral of ‘control’.
