Is This Britain’s Wackiest Wedding?
One-legged, blindfolded tight rope walkers who’re on fire, an Alice in Wonderland inspired theme and a helicopter
stunt; Peter Rosenfeld and Vera de Ruiter’s Big Day will be no run-of-the-mill affair, make no mistake.
Bravely handing over the power to the people, journalist Peter and Dutch babe Vera have appealed for suggestions from the public about how to make their nuptials as wacky as possible, via their website (http://www.wackywedding.co.uk). The aim of the game is to banish boredom and make the day genuinely fun for everyone. Already, a memorable time and date (20:10, 20/10, 2010), a swish venue (Peckforton Castle) and a suitably wacky theme (Vera in Rosenland) have been decided.
Intrigued about why the couple not only wanted to abandon everything traditional, but let the public design their special day, Staggered has subjected Peter to a lite grilling…
STAGGERED: What will your wacky wedding involve?
PETER: It’s essentially a 4-hour extravaganza along the lines of a West End show, with a ‘Vera in Rosenland’ theme which was adapted from an Alice in Wonderland suggestion. The two lead characters (Vera and I) will tell the story of their relationship in an unforgettable style. We’ve got one-legged, blindfolded tight rope walkers who’re on fire, a helicopter stunt and loads more. It’ll be a truly odd and memorable experience for the guests. They’ll witness something far removed from reality. Some extremely weird and wacky entertainment is now being procured and we’ve been holding X-Factor style auditions with the help of talent agency Starnow.
What’s your motivation for all this wackiness?
I was married for 18 years but then got divorced and had a bit of a mid-life crisis, so I bought a sight-seeing tour bus that I took around Wales. It was a great way to meet women and that’s how I lucked out and met Vera. Our relationship was built on wackiness right from the start. Plus, having followed convention before, I wanted to do exactly the opposite to traditional wedding protocol. It’s a kind of protest, in a way.
How can people track your progress?
The website is the catalyst, so people can see how the wedding evolves from there. There’s also a high likelihood that the wedding will be televised and/or covered in a national magazine.
Why have you opened up your wedding to all this public attention?
There is a reason but I can’t give too much away, suffice to say that all will be revealed on the day….(oooh, the tease!)
Got any advice for people who’re about to start planning their wedding?
Do not under any circumstances be bullied into following convention! Go with your heart and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Don’t be governed by tradition.
It’s certainly going to be one to watch…
