Blog – Keeping Fit Before The Wedding

I want to be in peak fitness for my wedding, but my friends have all sorts of plans for us including a Stag week in Ibiza and a couple of other nights out before the wedding, where I know I will be forced to drink so many shots and cocktails and will end up eating kebabs in the gutter by the end of each night. What can I do to counteract this?

Tricky one. Forget trying to do any exercise on the stag, it just isn’t going to happen. Practically speaking, try and drink as much water as you can when you are out drinking with the lads. Tell your best man that you will be drinking a pint of water every couple of beers and stick to it. Even the most hardcore of stags won’t deny you this.

Before going to bed try and remember to drink a further pint of water with a Berocca tablet or similar in it. This will help to rehydrate you and also replace essential minerals that a poor diet wont.

I would also use your stag week as a reward to motivate you to train hard before going away. Try and see the stag as a break from training that you have earned. If, by peak fitness, you mean that you want to lose weight in the run up to your wedding you need to embark on a training routine that involves plenty of long slow runs over the course of about 8-12 weeks – not including the stag week!

Good luck!
