More information about metals
9 ct yellow gold
9ct yellow gold is a metal alloy which contains: 37.5% gold, 52.1% copper zinc and 10.4% silver. It's hardwearing but lighter in colour than 18ct yellow gold. It is the cheaper of the two choices. Excellent if you are on a budget.
9 ct white gold
9ct white gold is a metal alloy which contains: 37.5% gold, 4.9% palladium and 57.6% silver. It's more hardwearing than 18ct yellow gold. It is the cheaper of the two choices. Excellent if you are on a budget. It will probably need rhodium plating to give a good white finish. White gold is naturally a yellowy-cream colour and is often rhodium-plated. Plating usually lasts around 3-5 years.
18 ct yellow gold
18ct yellow gold is a metal alloy which contains: 75% gold, 16% copper and 9% silver. It is a beautiful rich yellow colour. The metal is softer than 9ct gold, but a more popular choice due to the colour and higher gold content. The softness would only really be an issue if the piece was to be worn against a harder metal such as 9ct gold.
18 ct white gold
18ct white gold is a metal alloy which contains: 75% gold, 3% palladium and 22% silver. The metal is softer than 9ct gold, but a more popular choice due to the higher gold content. The softness would only really be an issue if the piece was to be worn against a harder metal such as 9ct gold, platinum or palladium. It will probably need rhodium plating to give a good white finish. White gold is naturally a yellowy cream colour and is often rhodium-plated. Plating usually lasts around 3-5 years.
Palladium
Palladium, is a metal alloy which contains: 95% Palladium, 5% Gallium & Copper. Palladium is a white metal from the platinum family. It doesn't tarnish or require rhodium plating. It is also hypoallergenic. It is lighter in weight and slightly softer than platinum but it is almost half the price. Palladium is an excellent alternative to 18ct white gold or for someone looking for a larger piece that would be too heavy in platinum.
Platinum
Platinum is made up of approximately 95% pure platinum and 5% copper. This is the hardest of all metal choices. Its a white metal that doesn't tarnish or need plating. It is also hypoallergenic. Platinum is the heaviest of the precious metals which could be a consideration if ordering a large piece or if you are not used to wearing jewellery all the time. Platinum is also the rarest and most expensive of all the precious metals.

More information about stone colour
White
A white stone has to be a diamond. Diamonds are priced according to your budget. They can be surprisingly cheap or extravagantly expensive. It's your call.
Blue
The obvious choice would be blue sapphire. You can get stunning sapphires in a broad spectrum of shades. As an alternative you could also choose lapis lazuli, a vibrant electric blue stone or a turquoise which are both unfaceted and flat-backed. If you have a preference please specify in the notes, otherwise we will advise according to your budget.
Purple
Tanzantie stones come in a range of colours from a deep rich purple to a pale lilac. Some even look almost blue. Amethyst is a cheaper alternative and come is a variety of vibrant rich purple shades. If you have a preference please specify in the notes, otherwise we will advise according to your budget.
Green
The obvious choice for a green stone would be an emerald however we can also use tourmaline, which comes in a bright rich green colour or peridot which is often a bright yellow green. If you have a preference please specify in the notes, otherwise we will advise according to your budget.
Red
Ruby is the favorite for red stones. They are available in pale almost pink shades right through to rich deep shades. Other choices include carnelian which is a brown red stone. If you have a preference please specify in the notes, otherwise we will advise according to your budget.
Pink
For a pink stone you could choose a stunning and rare pink diamond or the more obvious choice would be a pink sapphire. Pink stones come in a variety of shades from baby pink to bright cerise. The brighter the stone the more valuable it is. If you have a preference please specify in the notes, otherwise we will advise according to your budget.
