We've already taken out our wedding insurance last year, exactly 2 years before our wedding date.  The only thing it claims not to cover is the deposit on our band which was already paid well in advance.

TBH, the whole thing is probably a total con, but if it helps put her mind at ease then it's one less thing to get stressed about.

We put off getting our wedding insurance for ages but I began to get really panicky after reading some horror stories in a wedding mag one day and so just got on the Debenhams website and got it – I knew Matt wouldn't get round to it and wanted to be sure the venue deposit was covered.

It's not like it's a scam – but it's like all insurance, waste of money most of the time…

We've got it – think it was only around £60.

We're gettng married in Sorrento, Italy and the only reason we purchased wedding insurance (and chose the one that we did) was cos at the time of booking we got stuck in Sorrento due to the volcanic ash cloud, the insurance will cover us for deposits etc. just incase we can't fly out to the wedding due to something like that. Other than that I don't think we would have been bothered.

I haven't taken it out, but think insurance is a good idea, we did our wedding on the cheap, I bought my dress from Ebay,  my sister owned the pub where we had the reception and Honeymoon was in the Lakes, so insurance was not necessary.

Wedding Insurance for us is a must – its definitely worth paying that extra for your peace of mind, should anything go wrong! You just never know what could happen…..bands double booked, venues burning down….better to be safe than sorry we think!

Count me in!

We, well, I say we, she took out our Insurance last December (we're getting married in October). Being a bloke, I can take or leave the whole insurance thing, but it's something that helps the future Mrs Derro sleep a bit better so who am I to complain? Plus, if something did go wrong, it's worth £90 to save the 'I told you so' face that I'll get if the building catches fire.

It always comes down to the question of if you want to tempt fate. With the god awful weather we get, we've seen some poor real grooms on here have to change plans at the last minute. Insurance is a safe bet

Quite a variation in prices already on the blog – btw if you've not yet got it then it's worth having a look at this comparison site for wedding insurance, as it could save you a few quid.

Hmmm. Not sure. It depends what it covers and how much it is. I guess it's no more of a scam than any other insurance. Will certainly consider it.

We got insurance, about £70 I think.

Bearing in mind the huge amounts of money you're spending, even if you're doing things relativly cheaply like we are, I think it's worth it.  You get holiday insurance for something that's a fraction of the cost, so why not wedding insurance?

I think maybe people dn't even want to entertain the idea something might go wrong.  Thinking about it Future Wife seemed particularly interested in whether they pay out if the bride soesn't turn up.

I got insurance in July '10 (about 1 year before the wedding) before I'd booked anything.

We're getting married in Thailand – funnily enough, to get everything we could ever ask for a wedding, the total expenditure including flights and the weeks accommodation, wedding attire etc. is about £5k.

This works because we are renting two luxury villas, each come with chefs, maids, pools and gyms and the wedding takes place on the beach in front (planned by a live in anti-cookie cutter wedding planner). Our families are staying the villas (and paying thier own accommodation) and our friends are staying at the bungalow resort next door (about £5 a night). The wedding itself is about £2.5k including an elephant delivery of the bride, full Thai buffet (of our choosing) for 40, cake, flowers, beach ceremony layout, sound system, dining set up etc. – and pretty much anything you want.

We know the drill and are confident in the wedding plans as we've had friends of friends that married at the same location, HOWEVER, our families have forked over their accommodation deposits, etc. so…. I got insurance.

Our insurance covers the cost of the villas (should the business go under/a tsunami! etc.), the wedding attire, any money forked out for the wedding. It gives us piece of mind, but also means we can claim back anything that our families lose in terms of accommodation etc.

It cost us about £60 from my-weddinginsurance (which was a random pick off the net) and was a one-off payment.

It really is a huge weight off whether we use it or not. £60 is fairly negligable compared to what we could lose!

We are not going to have a wedding insurance.

Our wedding is going to be small and we have a very tight budget so it will be just more of unnecessary expenses. However, if you spend lots on your wedding I can see the point to have it .

we haven't bothered – the only things we've really paid out for which are specific to the day are £750 for a buffet, £425 for the venue & £400 for the registry office. entire wedding is coming in at under £4000 so wedding insurance seems like a waste.

We're going to get insurance as soon as we can! My fella has been seeking out the provider that offer the best value for our needs as he's the bargain-hunter of our team. I think the last time I asked him about it we were looking at around £60. I don't feel it's a scam if you get the right type for you, but like insurance generally what you're buying is the piece of mind that it offers.

Like a parachute on a plane, you don't want to ever have to use it, but it's very reassuring to know it's there!

All insurance is a waste of money…   until you need to claim on it.

We were going to take it out but never quite got round to it. I think it is a good idea if you want some peace of mind cause you never know.

This makes me think I need to look into getting it again…..

Not Really. If it goes wrong it will go wrong, which no amount of insurance will cover. Be positive! Think Positive!

It never even occured to me! I would have got it if we had enough spare cash but at the moment we don't have any spare and would rather spend more on the wedding than thinking the worst for the big day
