OfflineIn this time of triple-dip recession, what's the first frivolous, unnecessary thing to get dropped like so much loose sherbet from the wedding budget lollypop?
In other words: when you're forced to cut something out of your wedding due to budgetary constraints, what's expendable?
I'm going to make the obvious guess of flowers, but based on recent evidence it seems that they're still a mainstay after all.

Mmm, triple-dip recession *drools*

OfflineYeah, we delberately chose a small venue. Quite clever way to explain why certain people aren't invited as well. 'Oh we'd love you to come, but our venue is too small!'
Other than that, I guess its a question of shopping around and finding cheaper alternatives. We've saved on flowers by not having flowers in our table centerpieces and sourcing some other decorations. You could always use some of your own things, like photographs of the guests on that table, or of you, or whatever, or favourite ornaments, or album covers of favourite bands.

OfflineHmm, first to go in my mind would certainly be any money thrown behind the bar / down people's necks. However, we don't have that in the first place…
I'm not sure what I'd happily lose from our arrangements. We're lucky enough to have got our florist and photographer at reasonable rates, we bought a camcorder rather than hire videographers (that's saved us around £500), so I suppose that's one thing we cut back on from the off?
I know the following have to be present in my mind to make a complete wedding: flowers, photographer, cake, food and DJ / band. Anything else is technically expendable, I suppose.
Fingers crossed, there'll be no need to cut anything from ours, we're under budget at the moment…..!

The most efficient saving is to drop guest numbers. My favourite advice I've seen on this was to purposefully pick a venue that has a restriction on numbers. There's a lot of empty phone boxes out there.
Yes, I do agree with the idea of Andrew it sounds practical. And just invite the important persons and give a gate pass for every person that you invited for controlling and monitoring purposes .:)

OfflineA gate pass? You mean, like an invitation??
Or a ticket/wrist band thing, with security guards and scary bouncers, to keep out the gatecrashers and the riff-raff???
This is starting to sound less like my idea of a normal wedding and more like something Jordan would sell to OK magazine…
Oh, can someone replace the above link with Genesis's "Land of Confusion" please? My fave Phil Collins song :o)
