Hi all, I've been lucky enough to have been asked again to be Best Man. While it is a great honour, it's difficult to come up with something original and funny. Any tips would be appreciated.

I've posted a youtube video of a friends Best Man toast. I thought it was really funny, something along these lines is what I'm aiming for.

Thanks in advance guys.. Wedding is in January 2012

Hi Alan – great to have you on the forum and happy to help. It's a great speech you've posted and I think it answers nearly every question you've got.

Essentially, he doesn't use any cheesy lines, he adds sincerity (the genuinely honoured stuff at the beginning) and he sticks to the stories about the groom. This is the blueprint for all the best speeches. Keep it personal and if you have to make someone the butt of the joke, make it you. The audience will love you for it and so will the groom.

I'm sure you've probably seen it but our how to write your wedding speech article will more or less take you from top to bottom of the speech – http://www.iamstaggered.com/fe…..ing-speech

Anything in particular that's been worrying you about it?

He does use a lot of generic, staple, oldie but goodie gags here; "well balanced meal" "slept like a baby" etc but what's great about best man speech gags is that unless you work in the industry or attend a lot of weddings, there's a good chance you won't have heard them all a thousand times.
If those are the kind of gags you're after you should just take care to avoid the most over-used ones.

Thanks for the comments guys. I've known the guy since we were kids so I thought I'd be able to get away with something like this. I'll be sure to try and get some original gags. I'll let my friend know you liked his video sure he'll be pleased with himself.

Nothing really worrying me about it Andrew, thanks. I've done lots of formal toasts but I tend not to add much humour. The challenge is to make it fun, funny and enjoyable for people.

Thanks again
