OfflineOoh me please. We quite fancy beach and city, but is it really stupid to try to do two holidays in one – we were thinking Andalucia for beachness then NYC for citiness? Is there anywhere we can do both? We were trying to find nice beaches not crazy far from NYC but is Florida full of bum bag-wearing tourists and dolphins (neither of which I like)?
Hi Jemski – sorry to move your post around but it will get more attention if it's in its own post – will alert the travel experts to your plight.
One thing to bear in mind with a multi-location honeymoon is that you'll get twice the jetlag. Some people shake that off but it ruins other people. I think I'm right in saying that if you travel Eastwards around the world it's easier because you're adding time rather than taking it off.
If I'm wrong could someone correct me and I'll edit my post and delete yours so I still look right. Ta.

OfflineHi Jemski
I would disagree with Andrew on the jet lag topic: I find that travelling west is better as they are behind so when you arrive, you have gained a few hours and usually keep going until bedtime because you are so excited to be there (ie if you left for New York or the Caribbean in the morning, you would arrive there mid afternoon, even though it would be late evening in the UK.) I fi nd that travelling East really knocks me out as they are ahead when you get there, so you have lost some time. This is worth bearing in mind when booking your time off work: coming back from a transatlantic trip can knock you out for a couple of days.
Not all parts of Florida are as you describe (happily!) The Keys are especially good but there are a few dolphins. It might be worth considering a twin centre break with New York and a Caribbean Island, although this could be more expensive than the other options I have for you. (I am a travel writer but also work as a consultant with an ABTA bonded agent and can get you a competetive quote if you send me a private message with your dates, budget and which option appeals most.)
Cuba is excellent value for money and still relatively unspoilt compared to other Caribeean Islands. There are lots of twin centre options including a stay in Havana, which is a city like no other and won't stay that way forever. Varadero is around three hours drive from Havana and offers picture perfect turquoise sea and powder white sand, as well as an array of quality All Inclusive hotels. Even if all inclusive isn't usually your thing, it is gresat to have everything on tap and your trip to Havana should make you feel less hemmed in.
If you would prefer to do your own thing while you are away, why not consider combining a break in Bangkok with a Thai beach holiday? The cost of living in Thailand is still relatively cheap and you can get luxury accommodation for a fraction of European costs, as well as great value dining.
Let me know if you need any advice and / or a no obligation quote. Personally, I would go for Cuba as it won't be like it is for much longer.

OfflineWow – cheers Emily. That's massively helpful. Cuba could be perfect, I can't believe I didn't think of it before actually - didn't fancy other parts of the Caribbean so much as it would just remind me of work (I have clients based in Barbados, Jamaica etc), but I've always fancied Havana and it could give us the chance to combine the city and beach life on one island.
Thanks for egging me on Andrew.

OfflineWent to Cuba in May, 3 nights in Havana and 8 nights in Varadero, and both were great!
Havana can be pretty hectic so it's nice to do it this way round so you have some time to relax.
Both are also pretty central, and there are loads of trips you can do to the surrounding cities and sights etc.
A real once-in-a-lifetime trip to a very different country… I booked with Kuomi and they were ace.
That reminds me, I must do a blog about this… watch this space
