Proposing: it's not a competition

With all of the recent movie trailer and videogame themed proposals appearing on the net you could be forgiven for thinking the idea is to one-up your peers and create an elaborate, clever, gimmicky proposal.

It's fair to say that some of them have been impressive – the Portal 2 levels we showed you recently are a thing of wonder and, although it inevitably went viral, it was at least a private and intimate thing between the couple for all of five minutes.

But what do you think? Do these set-piece proposals have a future? Are they simply a sign of the times? Will they continue to get more elaborate and expensive, or are they seen as just a gimmick?

It's an interesting question and one I've pondered myself. I think it's the fact that they're so perfect for t'internet that people see them as being a good way of finding fame. It's true of weddings in general actually, in that they're increasingly personalised.

If it inspires blokes to be more creative and inevitably more involved in the wedding then I think it's a good thing. If it's just to get 10k views on YouTube then you're probably going to be divorced pretty soon (can't wait for those "I want a divorce" virals).

Yes that is true proposing is not a competition if you want to propose make it sure that you are ready to face the stage of being a married one.

Hi Pakistani Wedding, great to have you on the forum and I noticed a mistake on your link as a welcoming gift I amended it so that it points to the Phil Collins song I think you were meaning to link to.

It was this one wasn't it?

Ahhh what a great song – you got some goood taste there Pakistani Wedding!

Got to love the Collins, prefer his earlier work though…I wonder if that song has been anybody's first dance?  I know you're supposed to go slow and mushy, but uptempo would be fine if you're confident of your dancing I suppose?

If you're going uptempo then you should go uptempo.
