YouTubery: Save The Date Videos
Just in case you guys didn’t get the memo, nobody alive reads or uses paper anymore. Well, except for that memo, obviously. But that was definitely the last of the lot! In this sparkling world of tomorrow, the internet replaces old fashioned formality which has given rise to a new tradition: the video “Save the Date”. We thought we’d take a look at some of them and separate the vile from the viral.
Save the Date 1 – Valerie and Kelly
Before you ask – not lesbians, it’s a man called Kelly. Starting at the top of the tree, this effort is genuinely pretty blazing. They’ve even hired the infamous movie voice-over man to narrate it, as well as taking the time to ensure it’s on a date impossible to forget, like all the dumbest blockbuster movies. With all due respect Valerie and Kelly, the quiche at the reception is going to need to be pretty, pretty good to keep up the standard set here. Good work in even making a sly reference to their infamous bondage and cake fetish parties too – oh, you guys!
Save the Date 2 – Nick and Kayla
Nick and Kayla’s concept for a wedding invitation could best be described as, “Previously, on Nick and Kayla’s life….” They offer animated reconstructions of all the precious times they spent together and spoke very slowly and matter of factly about everything in anticipation of the big day in a Church made of Microsoft Paint. For the record, I think Kayla is, like, way too good for him, but, like, if Nick didn’t even want a dog in the first place, why didn’t he just go ahead and say so?
Save the Date 3 – Ben and Becca
In this format, Ben and Becca discuss the plans for their long awaited upcoming winter wedding in a relaxed, improvisational manner. Poor Ben is already feeling the strain. The dude just wants a waffle maker! But Becca’s not going to let him get away with the formalities that easy! But there’s something very wrong. She’s clearly rather pretty and I’m sure she’s lovely company, but as a comedy double act, you’ve got the skills and the timing here, Ben. Maybe you could consider a second marriage, purely for mirth. Also, either you’re a really dodgy editor or you can literally jump back and forth through time, so perhaps that’s part of your cunning plan?
Save the Date 4 – Keith and Charissa
Even by my standards, it feels mean to mock the sheer saccharine cheese of this video, which appears to make the wedding out to be some sort of divine spiritual event, so I won’t mention any of that. Instead, I’ll focus on the fact that I can’t read what any of it says because they’ve used a cheesy white text on white backgrounds. Then again, they do look like a sweet couple. And their hands seem to be very well maintained. What do you mean they’re stock image hands?! Oh, this is too much!
Save the Date 5 – Jane and Josh
As you’ll come to realise, you need balls to get married, but here, Jane and Josh do the right thing early, and inject a macabre sense of humour into such a sacred occasion by highlighting the elephant in the corner of the wedding. The couple are ‘taking the plunge’ at the splendid Wilfraston Hall in East Sussex, just up the road from consistently popular suicide haven Beachy Head! It’s also smart to mention this early on, as then you’ll definitely get the attendance and a gift from any friend who happened to be in the area regardless. Similarly, I hope they kept an eye on any single attendees, leaving for ‘an early night’.
