A traditional British inn that serves a cracking pint of real ale is considered to be something of an endangered species, and can be an elusive beast to track down. Ones that can also offer a decent room to kip in after a respectable session are even more sought after. Here’s TripAdvisor’s newly-released run-down of Blighty’s ten best inns with accommodation, perfect for anyone who’s mulling over ye olde stag do ideas.

  1. The Castle Inn, West Lulworth, Dorset – 16th century thatched pub on the Jurassic coast – boasts an extensive range of real ales.
  2. The Saint George & Dragon, Exeter – a classic traditional country pub, noted for its friendliness.
  3. The Four Mary’s, West Lothian – hosts the annual Cask Ale Festival during the last weekend of October.
  4. White Horse Inn, Clun, Shropshire – thriving village pub offering high quality local ales and home-cooked food.
  5. The Village Pub, Barnsley, nr Cirencester, Cotswolds – ignore the Cotswold location; this village pub isn’t touristy.
  6. The White Hart Hotel, Modbury, Devon – offers locally sourced food and regular comedy and music nights.
  7. The Fox & Anchor, Clerkenwell, London – has served the Smithfield Market traders with fine ales and hearty meals for years.
  8. Pack Horse Inn, New Mills, Derbyshire – CAMRA listed for more than a decade, the Pack Horse provides quality food, ales and rooms.
