The Weirdest Wedding Gifts Ever
As you can see from our eclectic range of stag do ideas, we’re all for trying to be original here at Staggered – but not at the expense of good taste. A new survey by wedding gift website, Engraved Gift Ideas, has revealed some of Britain’s strangest wedding gifts. The bizarre offerings include condoms, a salmon mould and even a toilet roll holder.
Another shocking lapse in decorum was the discovery that more than one in ten guests didn’t buy a gift at all. Yes, a stingy 12% of guests have had the gall to attend a wedding empty-handed. Younger guests are the worst offenders; 66% of the culprits were found to be aged between 16 and 30.
Interestingly, nearly half of all married couples admitted that they take into account how much a guest spends on wedding presents when it’s time to return the favour. From the guests’ perspective, they’re more influenced in their choice of gift depending on whether they were invited to the whole day or merely the reception, with 54% revealing that they consider their guest status when selecting a present. Guests also said that they weren’t swayed by the scale of the wedding when they chose a gift, so don’t assume that posh wedding = guaranteed posh presents.
Your best bet for a decent present is from your relatives. Guests were found to be more generous to family than friends, with 42% of guests splashing out as much as £50 on relatives compared to 51% choosing to spend £30 at most on friends.
