Take 3: Bath Oils

Mark Smith Feb 2012 No Comment Bookmark or Share

Winter is a great time to take a bath. Lots of hot water, some music, glass of wine (we’re not all health conscious here) and a candle (if there’s one kicking around the house). What completes this at-home spa experience will be the addition of a few drops of bath oil. Packed with aromatherapy oils that calm the body, soothe the soul or aching tired muscles. This is one treat you really shouldn’t deny your self. There’s three of the best here and a whole world of them if you choose to have a look.

#1 The Aches and Pains One

Repêchage Sea Spa Massage Bath and Body Oil

Feel like you’ve hit the spa with this all-rounder (that works as a massage oil too). This is a rich soybean based blend of natural herbal and citrus extracts with pure essential oils is an effective bath and body oil. There’s no artificial colour or synthetic perfume so is a perfect winter’s treat.

Soybean Oil is an emollient to hydrate and moisturise. Carrot Oil (yep, that’s right) has anti-oxidant benefits whilst Rosemary Oil is reviving and invigorating and great for muscle aches whilst Geranium Oil gives it a spa-like smell.

£24.50 for 236ml

Repêchage is available from salons and spas nationwide. For your nearest retailer call 0800 731 7546 or buy online at www.repechageuk.com.

#2 The Hydrating One

Bio-Oil

Not a bath oil as such, but it IS an oil and you CAN use it in the bath. This one is particularly good for dry skin conditions as it’s packed with lots of fabulous ingredients that care and nurture the skin.  Add a few drops to the bath and relax.

Bio-Oil is quickly absorbed into the skin where it’s unique combination of natural plant oils and vitamins help to improve skin tone, texture and moisture levels.  Used regularly, Bio-Oil can help to improve the appearance of sagging and wrinkled skin (no bad thing).

The Bio-Oil formulation combines some of the most important skincare ingredients, these include vitamin A and E with Calendula, Lavender, Rosemary and Chamomile oils, plus unique to Bio-Oil, a revolutionary ingredient, PurCellin Oil™, to ensure they are easily-absorbed deep into the second layer of the skin where they can provide targeted treatment.  PurCellin Oil™ is a breakthrough ingredient, which dramatically lowers the viscosity (stickiness and density) of the formulation to create a “dry” oil which is non-greasy.

Bio-Oil is preservative-free and is not tested on animals.

60ml from £7.79

Available from Boots, Superdrug, Tesco, Asda, Lloyds Pharmacy, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Waitrose, Savers, Bodycare, SemiChem, Wilkinsons and independent pharmacies nationwide.

#3 The Aromatic One

[comfort zone] Tranquility Oil

This one has a unique oil-based formula for bath and body, leaving you with silky, regenerated skin. The combination of natural nourishing, elasticizing oils and an exclusive aromatic blend bestows a unique sensory experience. Vitamin E, Amaranth, Grape, Vanilla and Rose oil – you’ll really feel like you are in the spa with this one. It smells great and looks fantastic, the bottle alone would make any bathroom envious.

Now, here’s the science.

Amaranth oil, from the Greek “amarantos”, meaning ‘immortal’, is characterized by a lipidic fraction composed principally of triglycerides, tocopherols and tocotrienols, which turn out to be very similar to the skin and to it’s own anti-oxidant network. For this reason the lipids of the amaranth oil are a precious remedy for extremely dehydrated skin.
