Stag-Do Ideas: Go Cruising

“If you believe me, my young friend, there is nothing – absolutely nothing, half so worth doing as – simply messing around in boats!”

And let’s face it, if you can’t trust a talking rat to pick where you go on your stag-do, who can you trust? So, how about for your stag-do heading off on a cruise?

Don’t worry, we’ve not gone mad, we know you’re not a clutch of 70-year-old widowers, but it’s ok, because cruises have changed. A bit. Whereas before it was all about a gentle game of shuffleboard before eating your own bodyweight in prawn cocktail and then enjoying a casual heart attack on the poop deck; these days the cruise companies are targetting younger audiences and have unexpectedly created a great stag-do solution.

There are even awards ceremonies for cruises including categories on best for stag parties. In fact our favourite cruise magazine Cruise Critic (although if we’re being honest we do also enjoy browsing Cruise And Hound magazine, Shipfaced and Cruisers’ Wives) announced some just the other day. The winner of the award for “Best For Stag and Hen Parties” was P&O Cruises who told us that their party cruises were just the thing for the impending hen or stag do.

You still need convincing don’t  you? Ok, how about:

  • it’s something different
  • free entertainment on-board (a recent cruise had Derren Brown)
  • stop off at and get leathered in some great European cities
  • all food included
  • all accomodation included
  • bar charges are equivalent to pub prices
  • choice of bars and discos on board
  • shuffleboard
  • chance to dress like sailors

And for all that you can expect to pay around £250 per person for a two or three night cruise. Frankly, they had us at Ahoy.

Pictures, showing the sort of thing you can expect on-board the P&O Cruise ship Ventura. Not bad, huh?
