Stag-do ideas: Boozy-Dos With A Difference
The stag-do is arguably the ultimate boozy-do. Granted, there are a growing number of options for those who choose not to drink but for the most part stag-dos = alcohol.
That doesn’t mean though that you need to be swilling cooking lager in an alley, here are three ideas for ways to incorporate a top drawer drinking session with a bit of a difference into your stag-do planning.
Shaker UK is a bartending school with bases in Birmingham and London. Founded by Adam Freeth, the school has trained bartenders at some of the UK’s best drinking holes. Now, it’s your turn. The Shaker UK stag and hen parties start with a champagne cocktail on arrival while you get a short lesson on how to be a mixologist (bartender to me and you). Then it’s your turn as you get to work shaking some classic cocktails like Sours, Mojitos, Collins and Martinis.
- Duration: 2 hours
- Courses cost – Birmingham £50.00. London £60.00. The course can be booked at other venues. You need a minimum of 10 people (book 12 and the hen or stag goes free).
- Booze to education ratio: 3:2
As the name would suggest the Beer Academy provides a fantastic taster session where you can find out everything you’ve ever wanted to know about beer but were too afraid (or drunk) to ask. They’re based in London but say that they can organise courses anywhere in the UK. Taster sessions include sampling a range of six different beers with five different foods, so you even get fed into the bargain.
- Duration – 90 minutes
- Courses cost – £25 per person (includes a Beer Academy Branded Glass and free booklet).
- Booze to education ratio: 2.5:2.5
Vinopolis is just next to the Tate Modern and for the last 10 years has been teaching people about wines. They currently have around 150 wines from all over the world and have devised a stag party that should give you equal measures of learning and getting blotto. A free drink on arrival is followed by a crash course in how to taste wine. Then you get a blind taste test which sees you comparing the finer merits of whisky and rum. The whole thing is rounded off with an absinthe session, where the groom prepares the stags a fresh glass of insanity juice in the traditional manner. You also get three tasting vouchers to use in the Wine Tour, if you can still stand.
- Duration: 90 minutes
- Price: £30 per person
- Booze to education ratio: 4:1
