Hello Stags!

Another week under the belt. I don’t have a grand theme for this post but I like the sound of my own voice so felt it was only right to blog anyway!

Sharon and I went along to give our notice of marriage to our local registry office on Saturday. It was quite an interesting experience I have to say. Upon arriving at the office we saw that there was a wedding on – well lots of people milling about outside so we thought it was likely it was pre/post ceremony. Either that or they were some really high-class hobos…

Interview

Don't worry - you don't need to bring a calculator!

So we pop around to the office only to find the door locked (Saturday is by appointment only). Ok I think; no problem. Ten minutes of knocking later and my resolve is close to breaking. When we finally get inside we are told in great detail what the issue is: apparently those people outside were expecting a ceremony that the office wasn’t expecting for another hour. Yes, that’s right – they were double booked! This was a definite tick in the box for getting married at a certified venue – at least in those circumstances they have to travel so can’t afford to make such errors, and you also have a bit more lead time to chase them up if not there at least half an hour early!

They were very lucky we are a patient couple! In all honesty they sorted out their issue in very good time and we were quickly attended to. The interview itself was quite interesting – you are asked information about yourself and your partner, to ensure that there is no legal reason for you not to marry, and also to make sure it’s not a sham.

There was one moment when I almost forgot her birthday due to the scrutiny, but overall I believe we acquitted ourselves well – I think the only hiccup was Sharon forgetting her Dad’s job title before he retired! One thing to note is that the cost for giving Notice of Marriage is per person so make sure you have the correct money on you. The notice is valid for location and parties involved, so if you have to rearrange the date you wont need to re-do the Notice. However if you change venues you’ll have to do it all over again!

We have finally sorted out our venue (yay) and are now sorting out the pennies to pay the deposit and sign the venue contract. We also need to sort out the wedding insurance as soon as possible, as you never know what can happen!

That’s all for now – well at least that’s all I can think of: I am sure that I have missed something and will receive a clip around the ears for my trouble! Until next time,

STD
