Real Grooms: Michael Wall
This week’s real groom Michael sports the classic tux look, complete with bow tie (bow ties are cool) and snazzy waistcoat for his money-saving weekday wedding, cleverly held between Christmas and New Year when all the guests, and bride Jennie, would have time off. With awesome photography by David J. Perkins, which sadly does not feature any images of Mike in full ‘Lloyd Christmas’ orange tux (see below).
Name: Michael Wall
Age: 29 (knocking on 30)
Bride’s Name: Jennie
Best Man: I didn’t have a ‘best man’ as such. 4 of my closest mates were the Groomsmen: Craig Jones-Newey, Gareth Holland, Mark Fletcher & Dave Ridgway.
Where did you get married?
Dunsley Hall, Kinver, South Staffordshire.
Where was your stag-do – any scars?
30 lads spent a weekend in York in October 2010 – well timed as it coincided with Freshers Week! One day was spent at the races with me dressed in an orange ‘Dumb and Dumber’ suit; the winnings were then spent on a tour of York’s finest drinking establishments.
No scars really, except I did have to wear a wetsuit on the train on the way back, which could be seen as mentally scarring for those who saw me. My father-in-law stole the show giving his rendition of Travolta on the dance floor.
What did the men wear on the day?
The wedding had a ‘black-tie’ dress code. I hired tuxedos for the grooms party from Nicholas Smith in Brierley Hill, complete with self tie bow ties – Needless to say, many hours were spent practicing that perfect bow tie!
What three pieces of advice would you give to blokes going through the whole wedding thing now?
1. Delegate! Hand out jobs for the day to your best man and ushers. You and your bride should have no worries on the day!
2. Take time to take it all in, because, although it’s a cliché, the best day of your life passes so quick.
3. Don’t scrimp on a cheap photographer and band. It really is, money well spent. A good photographer will catch those all important moments and tells a story of the day (thanks David.) The band are responsible for cranking up the party and leaving an unforgettable memory for your guests. We hired a two piece fronted by Dino Baptiste who we’d seen at The Jam House in Birmingham and they rocked!
A word for the lady, come on, say something emotional about your bride…
I’m not an emotional lad but when she walked down that aisle, I choked- Jennie looked as stunning as ever and made me realise how lucky I am. She’s a wonderful person and as well as being my wife, the mother of my beautiful baby son, she is also my soul mate.
Staggered says:
Mike & Jennie, your wedding has a beautifully classic look, and we love your style Mike – sad as we are that we didn’t get to see that orange tux (feel free to share your stag-do pics with us via the forum/facebook/email – there’s a bag of chips in it for you)
Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us, you’ve given some really top advice and inspiration for all the grooms-to-be out there.
Congratulations!
