Meet The Brides Who Book Strippers For Their Husbands-To-Be

The stag-do is usually a time-honoured period of anxiety for the bride-to-be when the groom is whisked off by a mischievous best man for a weekend of outrageous debauchery. So it’s surprising that leading stag-do company DesignaVenture have noticed a sharp rise in a new type of customer booking stag-dos in 2010: the bride-to-be. And what’s even more surprising is they’re insisting on strippers!

"To be honest I’d be disappointed after all this if the rest of the stags didn’t get him a private dance."

Laura Beesley, 29 from Abingdon in Oxfordshire, is one such bride-to-be who has taken on the responsibility of booking the stag-do for her fiancé Christopher Buckingham.

“To be honest I think more women are doing it because they’re better at it! I know if it was left to Christopher he’d end up just having a few pints in the local pub and he’d not say anything but he’d be disappointed. Getting involved and booking it was my way of making sure he’d have the party he deserves,” says Beesley who has booked groom Christopher in for a weekend of fun for his stag-do in Bristol at the end of June.

According to DesignaVenture there has been a 10% rise in these bridal buyers in 2010. Marco Walker from the company says that the key to being a good bridal stag-do organiser is to use the support that’s out there for people looking for stag-do ideas.

“The brides we’ve dealt with make ideal organisers! They’re often on top of the finances more than the men and when it comes to activities and the little extras they have a very clear idea of what they want their stags to do. Often that can be way wilder than plans the best men come up with. We’ve found that brides are actually more likely to book a strip club than the men!”

On the subject of strip clubs Beesley has very firm ideas – she’s all for them. “Initially the plan was that they were going to Amsterdam. I said that if he did I wasn’t going to be walking down the aisle, but I think the strip clubs in the UK brides are much more comfortable with. To be honest I’d be disappointed if he didn’t go to a strip club and I’d be disappointed if his stags didn’t get him a private dance! It’s certainly the one and only time he’s got a green light to go!”

Traditionally, it’s been the best man’s responsibility to organise the stag-do but as the number of stags grows – Laura has booked a party of 17 in with DesignaVenture – the effort required to keep things on track can be too great for one person to handle.

Despite her efforts Laura says that she’s expecting none of the credit, “I sent all the texts and emails to the stags as if they were from Chris,” she says “so I should imagine he’ll be the one claiming that he did it all! But I don’t mind. The best man is still responsible for dressing him up and humiliating him and I’ll happily leave that to him!”

DesignaVenture Top 5 Tips For Women Booking The Stag-Do

1 – Use the professionals. Use a well-respected stag-do operator who can help you take the pain out of organising it and it will often get you a much better deal than if you booked it yourself.

2 – Get inspiration. If you’ve not seen The Hangover or National Lampoon’s Animal House then you need to watch some classic men’s movies to get ideas about what might make for a good time.

3 – Keep Communicating. Regular emails updating the stag party about plans can help keep everyone up-to-date and also build a sense of fun before the event – private Facebook event group are ideal for sharing photos and videos after.

4 – Be firm with money. Clearly communicate to everyone what needs to be paid when and quickly call anyone who misses a payment.

5 – What Goes On Tour, Stays On Tour – it’s the golden rule of stag and hen dos!

Just for reference, our wedding planner offered to organise both hen and stag dos for us, so this is a service they could provide rather than it all being laid in the best man/maid of honour’s lap.
