Lapland: The Ultimate Winter Wedding?
Fancy a winter wedding? Well, it certainly doesn’t get much more wintery than Santa’s home, otherwise known as Lapland. First Choice has just launched its updated Winter 2010/11 brochure and is now offering happy couples the chance to tie the knot in the ultimate winter wonderland, with the minimum of hassle.
Civil ceremony venue options include an ice chapel, a traditional Lappish Kota (a bit like a tee pee) a log cabin or even a Lappish Shaman’s hut in the heart of a snow-covered forest. It really doesn’t get more romantic than that. Ok, so it probably doesn’t get much more freezing, either, but then there’s sunburn, hay fever and wasps to negotiate in the summer – and who needs that? Besides, you’ll get to wear some seriously stylish winter wedding attire this way.
If you’re worried that the entertainment won’t stretch beyond a heart-to-heart with a husky, then don’t fret. Lapland’s cosmopolitan capital, Rovaniemi, offers some bright lights and nights out for you and your guests. It boasts international restaurants, stylish bars and trendy shops as well as the inevitable Christmas-related tourist attraction, ‘Santa Claus’ Village’. Better still, there are loads of fun activities on offer in the region, including husky rides, snowmobile trips, reindeer rides and ski-ing.
