In The News: This Week’s Round-Up
This week: lots of royal wedding guff.
Suppose we’d all better get used to it.
Suggested Donation
Most of you have probably been checking the official royal wedding website feverishly once or twice a day so as not to miss out on all the action, but for those of you who missed it, earlier this week Wilco and K-K revealed their gift list.
The couple have set up a charitable fund set to benefit organisations not currently enjoying royal patronage, and asked that anyone wishing to give them a wedding gift do so in the form of a donation.
We’ve lost the receipt for the egg-timer we got them from Wilkinson though. They should have said something earlier.

Hello, Is It Tangy Cheese You’re Looking For?
Hello magazine’s unparalleled Royal Wedding coverage (capital R, capital W) has become the mythical Ouroboros this week as it reveals K-K is an avid reader of the magazine. Presumably she’s just as in the dark as anyone when it comes to the latest “goss” on her hair and that.
The scoop, broken by Wilco and K-K’s local shopkeeper, also revealed where our future king’s pocket money goes: Tropicana, Vienetta and Doritos. He’s just like us! etc.

It’s Live! It’s Lllliiiiiive!
This weekend the BBC are cordially inviting us all to attend the wedding of one of literature’s most enduring characters, Victor Frankenstein (remember, that’s the scientist, not the monster) as BBC Three screens a live broadcast of their stage show Frankenstein’s Wedding… Live In Leeds at 9pm this Saturday.
The show, starring Stacey off Eastenders as the infamous Bride of Frankenstein, is encouraging audience participation, as executive producer Pat Connor told The Independent they are hoping theatre goers will show up dressed for the occasion.
Anyone who has spent any length of time in Leeds will know what a terrifying prospect this is.
Radio Goo-goo
Aping last month’s stunt by New Zealand radio station The Rock, Oxford based Jack FM and Glide FM have launched their own ‘win a wife’ competition in the form of Two Strangers and a Wedding* which invites both male and female listeners to apply for the roles of bride and groom, neither having any prior knowledge of the other.
According to an article on weddingnews.co.uk the contest is being seen as controversial by “local religious leaders” though the format is nothing new, having created successful relationships in Australia for over a decade.
Similar contests have been run on our own shores, notably Birmingham radio station BRMB’s 1999 pairing of sales manager Greg Cordell to former model Carla Germaine. It didn’t work out, but Germaine went on to marry station DJ Jeremy Kyle, who has since gone on to shout his own brand of sense at numerous teen dads.

An Offer You Can’t Refuse
On Thursday 14th of April, former DJ and perennial petrol-head Paul Wappat is launching The Quadfather by inviting guests to meet footballing legend Supermac and Real Radio breakfast team Gary and Lisa along with two members of the Newcastle Diamonds speedway team who will be swapping two wheels for four in a display of quad-biking prowess.
The following weekend, Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th April, will be a public open day, where visitors get to ride at a discounted rate of £10 for 20 minutes. Shouting “brum brum” is encouraged, but unnecessary.
Meet The Team
This week the Staggered road trip will be honking its horn at the Norton Park Hotel, Winchester for The Winchester Wedding Show and London’s Somerset House for The Wedding Sanctuary.
Come and see the team that some are calling the eleventh wonder of the world, and ignore the signs that tell you not to feed us.
