How To Buy A Diamond Ring

It’s not just the sheer ball-numbing expense that tends to make the bottom lip wobble a tad when it comes to buying a diamond rings. High-class jewellers are second only to French maitre-d’s when it comes to making you feel like a chump for just existing.

Fortunately, specialists ROX are a bit less stuffy when it comes to diamonds and they’ve given us a full guide on how to sound like you know what you’re talking about, when it comes to talking about these sparkly buggers:

Diamond

First off, before you even think of buying, you’ll need to master some basics:

Know her style – Pay attention when she admires someone else’s engagement ring or a ring in an advertisement; ask her friends and family what she likes. Look in her jewellery box; notice the style of jewellery she already wears. Go shopping with her and browse by a few diamond jewellery stores; you’ll get to see first-hand what really catches her eye.

Find her ring size – This may be difficult, as she’s probably never worn a ring on her left hand before. Try and get one of her other rings but remember the corresponding finger on her right hand is normally not the same size as her left hand. Alternatively, ask a friend to go shopping with her and try rings on for fun, getting her finger sized at the same time. It is no great problem to adjust a ring to fit after you’ve purchased though so don’t worry too much.

How much should I spend? – A common rule of thumb is two months’ salary, but it really comes down to what you’re comfortable with – and what she’ll be happy with. And keep in mind that most men end up spending a little more than they originally intended!

Should I buy alone? – That’s your decision. It depends if you wish to surprise her. If you plan to buy the ring before you pop the question then tell us and we’ll help you choose. If you pick the ring together, you can make it a special purchase.

How do I know what I am buying? – You’ll be faced with decisions about the shape of the diamonds, the setting style and choice of metal. You should probably also get used to saying that you don’t want to buy a conflict diamond (they’re bad m’kay) The diamond accounts for an overwhelming majority of the price of the ring, so we’ll show you the fundamentals that decide a diamond’s value – the 4Cs.

What are they? Well, read on…

We’re going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you’re entirely independent from that site. But then we are pretty dumb.

I’m getting married this summer so in the middle of planning the wedding and the stag doo and finding this site really useful! I’ve not come across a wedding site designed for guys before.

When I bought her engagement ring, I knew nothing about diamonds and would recommend this diamond guide -http://www.stevenstone.co.uk/diamond-education.php

My misses loved the diamond ring I bought her and it didn’t dent the bank too much!

Just got to buy the wedding rings next!
