Flowers To Avoid At Weddings

admin Mar 2010 No Comment Bookmark or Share

My mum says that some flowers should be avoided at weddings as they signify sadness, like lilies. Is this true?

Many flowers over the ages have associations. These change from country to country and through different time periods.

Rosemary signifies remembrance and could be used for a wedding or a funeral. Certainly pure white lilies (trumpet style) are common at funerals and therefore people have a tendency to associate the two. However, many brides choose them for their simplicity and scent. In Elizabethan and Victorian times they signified purity.

Lilies are popular for weddings as they come in a wonderful range of colours and styles. Calla, tiger and gloriosa lilies are often seen in brides magazines and are great to combine with other flowers. These may be an option instead of the trumpet lily.
